Professional Background

How long have you been doing what you do?

I have been working in higher education since 2011. I started as a resident assistant, worked in admissions, and am excited to now be in academic advising.

How did you get here?

I was an undergraduate at SIUE. I tried out a few different majors and could not really commit to what I wanted to do. I decided one day to apply to be a Resident Assistant in Housing. I got my letter stating I got the position, and as the say the rest is history. I grew a passion for working in higher education, and I decided one day I would be back as a professional staff at SIUE. I wanted to help students have the same amazing experience I had. I am very fortunate and excited to be at SIUE as an Academic Advisor.

How long have you been at SIUE?

I stepped foot on campus in 2008 as a student, and my heart has been here ever since. I took some time to get my masters at another university.  I have served as an academic advisor at SIUE since June, 2016.

What are you known for professionally? What do you have a knack for?

Understanding; I have sat in the same chair as the students. I know that choosing what you want to do for the rest of your life can be a scary thing for some people. I know that sometimes you can have a bad semester and sometimes you can have a great semester.

What are you most passionate about professionally?

I love getting to know the students, faculty, and staff. Everyone has a different path in life, and I love being a part of the journey.

What do you love most about working at SIUE?

I love that I get to give back to a place that gave so much to me when I was an undergraduate. I also just love the people here. The students, faculty, and staff are just amazing.

What are your primary duties in your current position?

Assisting students in picking out classes, exploring majors, and educating on campus resources.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?

Hanging out with my husband and our dog Walter. We love to try out new places to eat, cheering on our favorite sports teams, and traveling to Disney World as much as possible.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in St. Louis, MO, and I was raised in Belleville, IL.

Awards and Accolades
