Application Instructions: Traditional Option
Thank you for your interest in the SIUE School of Nursing. We are pleased to announce the program is now offered at both the Edwardsville and Carbondale campuses. Below you will find information detailing the School of Nursing and its admission requirements.
If you are pre-nursing at Edwardsville:
- You must follow the curriculum guide and complete the required prerequisite courses as outlined for fall with the remaining courses completed by the end of spring semester. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a final grade of “C” or better by the end of the spring semester prior to the fall that you wish to enter the nursing program.
- You must apply for admission to the School of Nursing. The nursing application for Fall 2013 will be available beginning September 15, 2012. The deadline for Fall 2013 admission consideration is March 1, 2013. Applications are available on the School of Nursing website or from the School of Nursing in Alumni Hall, Room 2117, or by calling (618) 650-3956. Please submit your application in person or by mail to SIUE School of Nursing, Box 1066, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1066.
- You must complete the HESI A2 Admission Assessment exam prior to the March 1, 2013 deadline. Be sure to register early in order to secure your choice of testing dates. There are a limited number of seats per testing date. Once the seats are filled, no additional testing dates will be available. You must register to take the test online through the SIUE Testing Center. There are specific dates during the fall and spring semesters that the test will be given. Visit the SIUE website at http://www.siue.edu/is/test/nursing.shtml for test dates and registration. A registration fee is required for this test. (For additional questions concerning fee amounts and registration policies, students should contact SIUE Testing Services.)
If you are pre-nursing at Carbondale:
- You must follow the curriculum guide and complete the required prerequisite courses as outlined for fall with the remaining courses completed by the end of spring semester. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a final grade of “C” or better by the end of the spring semester prior to the fall that you wish to enter the nursing program. (* This pertains to students applying for admission to the nursing program in fall 2012 or after.)
- You must apply for admission to the School of Nursing. The nursing application for Fall 2013 will be available beginning September 15, 2012. The deadline for Fall 2013 admission consideration is March 1, 2013. Applications are available on the School of Nursing website or School of Nursing Advisor in Carbondale in the Student Health Center, 2nd floor, Room 275D, or by calling (618) 453-4349. Official transcripts from SIU Carbondale and all other schools should be forwarded to SIUE School of Nursing at Campus Box 1066, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1066.
- You must complete the HESI A2 Admission Assessment exam prior to the March 1, 2013 deadline. Be sure to register early in order to secure your choice of testing dates. There are a limited number of seats per testing date. Once the seats are filled, no additional testing dates will be available. You must register to take the test by calling the SIUC Testing Services Office. There are specific dates during the fall and spring semesters that the test will be given. Visit the SIU Carbondale website or click here for test details. To register at SIU Carbondale, call 618-453-6003. A registration fee is required for this test. (For additional questions concerning fee amounts and registration policies, students should contact SIU Carbondale Testing Services.)
- In addition to the application for the School of Nursing, an application for Undergraduate Admission with the SIUE Admission office will be required only if you are accepted into the program. You will not be required to submit this application electronically.
If you are pre-nursing at a Community College:
- You must follow the curriculum guide and complete the required prerequisite courses as outlined for fall with the remaining courses completed by the end of spring semester. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a final grade of “C” or better by the end of the spring semester prior to the fall that you wish to enter the nursing program. To identify equivalent courses for your specific community college, please contact the School of Nursing office or visit the Registrar’s website, http://www.siue.edu/transfer/transfer-credit-equivalency-guides.shtml.
- You must apply for admission to the School of Nursing. The nursing application for Fall 2013 will be available beginning September 15, 2012. The deadline for Fall 2013 admission consideration is March 1, 2013. Applications are available on the School of Nursing website or from the School of Nursing in Alumni Hall, Room 2117, or by calling (618) 650-3956. Please submit your application in person or by mail to SIUE School of Nursing, Box 1066, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1066.

- In addition to the application for the School of Nursing, be sure that you complete an application for Undergraduate Admission with the SIUE Admission office. Official transcripts from all other schools should be forwarded to SIUE Admissions, Campus Box 1047, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1047. You can access the university application online at http://www.siue.edu/apply. You should complete your university application prior to submitting your application to the School of Nursing.
Admission to the traditional Bachelor of Science option is competitive. Applicants must present at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 2.7 prerequisite course GPA (both on a 4.0 scale) to be eligible for admission. To be competitive for admission, you should aim for a 3.0 or higher prerequisite GPA. All prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester (preceding the fall admission term) with each course grade no lower than a “C” (see brochure for admission details).

After Admission:
Once admitted to the School of Nursing, students must submit:
- completed SIUE physical exam form
- completed SIUE medical history form (annual TB skin test and influenza injection required)
- completed immunization history
- proof of CPR certification (status must remain active throughout enrollment)
- proof of current health insurance
- federal criminal background check
- drug screen
- Do not submit the above materials until you are directed to do so.
