School Nurse Certification Program at SIUE prepares registered nurses to serve school children and adolescents in a school setting. School nurses may have multiple responsibilities, including providing health education and primary health care, serving as a coordinator of services, advocating for students, acting as a liaison between health care professionals and educators, conducting research, and participating on multidisciplinary teams.
The SIUE School of Nursing certificate program qualifies nurses to take the examinations offered by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to gain state certification (Basic Skills Exam and Type 73 School Service Personnel/School Nurse Certification Exam).
