Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Nursing program in Carbondale moved into a new simulation laboratory (Sim Lab) in January 2013. The lab is located in Lindegren Hall on the SIU Carbondale campus, which is shared with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine program.
The new location of the lab offers a closer connection for students to other health sciences programs and library usage. "The lab is more accessible to students because it is now centrally located on campus," said Erin McGuire, Sim Lab coordinator. "We have been able to provide the sophomore students with many more resources, such as lockers, in the new space.
The new Sim Lab has a much more user-friendly set up and offers better defined areas and work spaces. This new space also features a simulation room which will allow students to take tests on learned skills and medical scenario mock-ups.
The remaining SIUE staff offices on the SIU campus have also moved into the new space, which offers a convenience for students and faculty working in the Sim Lab.
