Kick-Off Event Educates Those Impacted by Asthma

Children Learn from SIUE School of Pharmacy studentsFamilies with children who suffer from asthma attended the East St. Louis Asthma Kick-Off event hosted by educators from the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy, in partnership with Harmony Health Plan of Illinois and the City of East St. Louis on Thursday. Celebrated Olympic athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee spoke at the event held in the East St. Louis City Hall Rotunda.

It’s an old problem that has gripped a vulnerable group of people for years, but Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy hope to breathe new energy into helping children manage asthma. Family Revitalizes SIUE School of Nursing Scholarship in Mother's Honor

Shirley Strohmeyer's son Whitney presents the scholarship in his mother's honorAs he applied to the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Nursing, a plaque hanging in the hallway caught the eye of Joseph Strohmeyer. Upon further inspection, the freshman student realized the plaque announced a scholarship that had been named in honor of his grandmother, Shirley Strohmeyer, back in 1996.

SIUE Women’s Golfer Awarded Lyons Memorial Scholarship

Rockford native, Alison Gorman, a junior in the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Nursing and member of the 2014-15 SIUE Women’s Golf team, has been awarded the Jane Lyons Memorial Scholarship worth $2,500 annually. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years for a cumulative total of $10,000.

SIUE Schools of Dental Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy Conduct Interdisciplinary Educational Simulation

The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Schools of Dental Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy collaborated to hold a simulation event on Thursday, Feb. 26. The event educated more than 200 students on the topic of medical error disclosure.
