• Master of Science, Nurse Educator (NE) Specialization
• Post-Master's Certificate, Nurse Educator Specialization
The NE specialization prepares baccalaureate prepared nurses to function as nurse educators in schools of nursing or to provide staff education within health care facilities, hospitals and community health departments.
The NE specialization is provided online with face to face practicum experiences in a clinical focus area as well as a teaching practicum provided in a variety of settings. Practica are individualized according to the student's professional experience, interest, and academic needs. Faculty teaching in the specialization offer diverse experiences, provide exciting teaching strategies, and act as role models for the students in the specialization. After finishing the program, the graduates are eligible to take the National League for Nursing "Nurse Educator" Certification exam.
There is an ever increasing need for nursing faculty as the average age of experienced faculty is rising and current instructors are reaching retirement age. Many qualified undergraduate and graduate applicants to nursing schools are denied entrance into schools of nursing because of the faculty shortage. Baccalaureate prepared nurses who obtain a nurse educator master's degree are actively sought through out the St. Louis metropolitan region as well as nationally.
The application process begins by submitting the SIUE graduate application found at: www.siue.edu/apply. Once the application has been submitted, the applicant will receive an email from Graduate Admissions within 2-3 business days which will detail the application process. A list of the requirements for the School of Nursing will be included in the email, and all required forms will be attached. The required forms include: a School of Nursing application, a Reference form (to be completed for each reference), and a Goals & Objectives Statement form. They can also be found to the left under Forms. All application materials must be sent directly to Graduate Admissions. Contact Tina Noto, graduate adviser, at (618) 650-3930 or tnoto@siue.edu for more information.
