• Master of Science, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Specialization
• Post-Master's Certificate, Family Nurse Practitioner Specialization
The Family Nurse Practitioner specialization prepares students to deliver comprehensive primary care to individuals from infancy through adulthood. A strong emphasis is placed on the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for health promotion and illness intervention.
The part-time SIUE Family Nurse Practitioner specialization provides cutting-edge clinical practice sites and opportunities that give FNP students an advantage in their development as advanced practice health care delivery specialists. Graduates are eligible to take the Family Nurse Practitioner certification exams offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. To facilitate learners' access to FNP education, the specialization is offered at both our Edwardsville and Springfield campuses. Courses are generally offered in the evenings and are taught using a combination of face-to-face, distance technology, and online learning techniques.
Family nurse practitioners will continue to be in high demand with the new revisions to health care funding, especially in rural and underserved areas. Family nurse practitioners work in diverse settings including physicians' offices, clinics, emergency rooms, intensive care units, specialized care centers like oncology care centers, women's health centers, and renal care centers. Family nurse practitioners can also become faculty members in schools of nursing to help mentor and guide future students.
The application process begins by submitting the SIUE graduate application found at: www.siue.edu/apply. Once the application has been submitted, the applicant will receive an email from Graduate Admissions within 2-3 business days which will detail the application process. A list of the requirements for the School of Nursing will be included in the email, and all required forms will be attached. The required forms include: a School of Nursing application, a Reference form (to be completed for each reference), and a Goals & Objectives Statement form. They can also be found to the left under Forms. All application materials must be sent directly to Graduate Admissions. Contact Tina Noto, graduate adviser, at (618) 650-3930 or tnoto@siue.edu for more information.
