Community Nursing Services

Community Nursing Services is a nurse-managed health care facility sponsored by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Nursing. Community Nursing Services provides comprehensive nursing services to promote, maintain, and restore physical, emotional, and social well-being for its clients. The professional nursing staff is committed to improving the health of the community and its residents by:

  • Providing quality health services
  • Serving as consultants to local agencies and health care providers in the areas of health education, health care delivery, and health care management
  • Working with residents, health care providers, and agencies to identify and develop plans to meet the health needs of local communities
  • Participating in the education of students in professional nursing and other health careers

Mission
Community Nursing Services serves the East Saint Louis and surrounding communities by providing affordable health care and educational services to residents, and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE) students.

These services are provided under the supervision of SIUE faculty and staff as a function of their teaching, research, service, and practice mission.

All persons have a right to affordable health care and information regarding health care, health promotion, and self-care across the lifespan.

Available Services
There are many services offered by Community Nursing Services which are performed by specialized nurses including Advanced Practice Nurses, and Community Health Nurses.  Each nurse has an advanced education, which can help you and your family meet your health care needs.

These services include:

  • School, sports, and employment physical examinations
  • Immunizations
  • Health screenings including blood sugar, lead, hearing, and vision
  • Evaluating and managing acute minor illnesses
  • Assisting clients with chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, and asthma
  • Educating individuals and families about normal growth and development, health habits, safety, and nutrition
  • Counseling families about behavior and family issues
  • Referring individuals and families to other health professionals or community agencies
