Nursing Accelerated Option  

Application Instructions

Thank you for your interest in the Accelerated Option Program with the SIUE School of Nursing.

You must apply for admission to the University AND to the School of Nursing.  The nursing application and reference forms will be available starting October 1, 2012 for Fall 2013 admission.  Application reviews for the Fall 2013 option will begin in January 2013, and qualified applicants will be accepted until the program is full.  The application deadline is April 1, 2013, but the program will most likely be full before this date. 

Clinical Option in Springfield

Starting with the Fall 2012 ABS cohort, a limited number of students will have the opportunity to attend their clinical rotations at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.  Students will attend the first semester of the Accelerated Option on the Edwardsville campus.  After the first semester, students will attend classes at the SIUE Springfield campus taught by SIUE nursing faculty via tele-education.  Clinical experiences will be scheduled at Memorial Medical Center and selected community facilities.  If you are interested in participating at the Springfield site, please mark the Springfield box on the nursing application. 

**APPLICATION PROCESS FOR FALL 2013**

The Accelerated Option will be using a SELF MANAGED APPLICATION PROCESS.  This means that the applicant is responsible for collecting and submitting ALL required application materials together in one packet (this includes completed reference forms). 

All application materials MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE YOUR APPLICATION CAN BE PROCESSED.  When complete (including university admission), your application will be stamped with a “completion date,” and applicants will be reviewed in “completion date” order for the rolling admission process.

The ABS application and reference forms will be available on October 1 on the website, from the School of Nursing in Alumni Hall, Room 2117, or by calling (618) 650-3956.

1. School of Nursing ABS application – (Note:  If you are interested in doing the clinical rotations  in Springfield, then please check the Springfield box at the top of the nursing application. 
2. Two letters of reference – (use School of Nursing reference forms) - must be submitted in a sealed envelope with the provider’s signature across the back of the envelope).  These should be submitted by persons in educational, administrative, or collegial capacities who have worked closely with you in the past 5 years. 
3. Course descriptions/syllabi – must submit the catalog course description and class syllabus for the following prerequisite courses if completed or currently enrolled in them at a college other than SIUE:  Chemistry, Anatomy/Physiology, Microbiology, and Life Span Growth & Development.
4. Prerequisite/Degree Completion Form – list the semester and school where you will be registering to complete any remaining prerequisitecourses or completing your bachelor’s degree. 
   Note:  You can apply to the program without having the prerequisites completed.  However, they must be completed prior to the beginning of Fall 2012.

University Admission Process

Being officially admitted to the university is also part of the ABS application process and application completion date.  Submit the university application on-line at www.siue.edu/apply.
