Welcome to Fall 2016!

Welcome to the first Graduate Student Digest!  This monthly digest will include all of the information you need to know to be successful at SIUE.  We will include information about upcoming events, funding opportunities, requirements and deadlines students must meet, student workshops, and resources available to all students.  You will receive the digest in your email each month and it will be posted on the Graduate School website.  www.siue.edu/graduate

We're on Twitter!

We are a social group and want to connect with you!  Follow us @siuegradschool.  We want to hear about all of your accomplishments and help you to connect to other graduate students.

SIUE 101

SIUE 101 is your one stop shop for everything you need to know about being an SIUE Graduate Student.  There you will find up-to-date information including parking, registration, childcare, graduate assistantship opportunities, FAQ's, how to operate CougarNet, student services, a list of all Graduate Program Directors, and the online Graduate Catalog that describes many of the University Policies that govern your academic career.  The catalog got quite the facelift this year so take some time to navigate through the online resource.

To access SIUE 101, log into Blackboard.  Under My Organizations you will find SIUE 101.  Click on Graduate Students and browse away!

Calling all Volunteers

Each year we assemble the Graduate Student Advisory Board and we need volunteers!  As an advisory board member, you will meet with members of the graduate school two times per semester to discuss student concerns, discuss issues with the graduate student senators, and learn about what's new in the graduate school.  We use these discussions to guide future student outreach and resources available to graduate students.  The advisory board allows you the opportunity to connect with fellow students and graduate school staff and administrators.  Meetings will be in the evening on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.  Students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher to be considered.

If you are interested in joining, please email Tessa Keys tlockha@siue.edu with your name, student ID number, SIUE email address, program you are enrolled, approximate graduate hours earned, and if you are a part-time or full-time student.

Graduate Student Success Sessions

This semester we will have student success sessions just for you!  Kimmel Leadership Center will help you get involved at the graduate level and take on a leadership role with organizations and undergraduates.  The Career Development Center will help you plug into professional organizations and build that network of support now.  The Writing Center will help you write in the correct style, at the graduate level, proofread your work, and prepare for your thesis.  Each session will be held on the 2nd Floor of the Morris University Center and will last approximately an hour.  Students who attend the sessions will be entered to win a $40 gift card to Target.  The more sessions you attend, the greater your chance to win!  The drawing will be held after the last session in November.  Click here to view the schedule!

Interactive Theater Performance

Graduate Students, particularly students who will be teaching in the classroom, are invited to an interactive theater performance on managing conflicts and social identity in the classroom.
What is Interactive Theatre?  Actors will present characters and conflicts on stage and then facilitate a dialogue processing the issues.  The audience will have an opportunity to interact with the characters on stage. This approach helps audience members explore their own behaviors.
