Visiting Scholars Present Lessons Learned, Today

You are invited to attend the upcoming lectures offered by visiting scholars from Northwest Normal University and Sichuan University of Science and Technology, China.

The scholars are participating in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior’s International Training Program in Pedagogy.

Scholars and their disciplines include: Yumei Chen, information engineering; Guanglin Liu, education and psychology; Xiaohua Shao, clothing culture; Jing Wang, information engineering; Xiang Feng Zeng, management; Lixia Feng, computer science; Hongzhi Long, preschool bilingual education; Lyuhua Niu, legal anthropology; Zhiyan Teng, international comparative education; and Fei Xu, social work.

The IRIS Center will present "The Nepal Earthquakes Project:"

Jacob Sebok is an undergraduate student at SIUE working toward his degree in anthropology, with a minor in linguistics. As a research assistant to Dr. Kristine Hildebrandt, Sebok has been working with a team to develop a web-based archive and exhibit to house data collected as part of Hildebrandt's research project: “RAPID: Narrating Disaster: Calibrating Causality and Responses to the 2015 Earthquakes in Nepal."

During his presentation, Sebok will cover topics including language endangerment and death, consequences of the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal, the process of constructing IRIS' newest website, and the role that archives run by small institutions can play in benefitting both academic and applied linguists in their work with endangered languages.

The Department of Theater and Dance presents "The End: An Apocalypse Anthology, A Collection of Short Plays" by Dan Dietz, Jennifer Haley, Allison Moore, A. Rey Pamatmat and Marco Ramirez. The play is directed by Wendy Renée Farmer.

Today is the Deadline to Drop Off Your Angel Tree Gifts

Thanks to everyone who adopted one of approximately 400 angels through the Student Government Angel Tree Project!

This is a reminder that today by 4:30 p.m. is the the last day to turn in your gifts for your adopted angel. Please bring your gifts to the Student Government Office, Student Success Center, Room 1280. Items should be wrapped with your Angel's information on it. 

As a reminder, we asked everyone to provide one (1) roll of wrapping paper per angel. We will provide this to the families upon pick-up.

There will be treats, games, crafts, pictures with Santa and opportunities to interact with the children you are sponsoring at the holiday party.

The SIUE East St. Louis Charter High School (CHS) Angel Tree program offers an opportunity to support part of our larger University community, and make this holiday season a memorable one for the students at CHS.

As winter approaches, the staff of CHS would like to ensure that all of our students experience the joy of the holiday season. To that end, we would like to invite you to participate in our Angel Tree giving program.

This year, it is our goal to give every CHS student a new sweatshirt and to give additional winter gear to the neediest students.
