Message from the Dean

Welcome to the School of Business BSBA/MBA Spring ’17 newsletter. The big news I have to share is that the School has received continued accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools in Business for our business and accounting programs. These programs were originally accredited in 1975 and 1987, respectively. You can read more about the accreditation process and outcome below in School News.

We are also thrilled to announce that, thanks to several new scholarship donors, we were able to award almost $175,000 in scholarships to over 100 business students at this year’s Scholarships and Awards Luncheon. Both the dollar value and the number of recipients are record amounts for the School of Business. These scholarships help the School attract and retain the highest-level students and are one way the School adds value to our students, the community and the University. Read more about the Scholarships and Awards Luncheon in the Spotlight on Students section.

Finally, we have showcased alumnus Damon Harbison, who was recently voted one of the 40 Under 40 by the St. Louis Business Journal, in our Alums in the News. We are proud of all of our alumni, and we appreciate your role in making the School of Business what it is today. Please share your successes with us—we love hearing from you!

Sincerely,
Timothy S. Schoenecker, PhD
Interim Dean

From New Jersey, Conn., and now Smithton, Ill., Dr. Robyn Berkley is an associate professor at SIUE. Earning a PhD in business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MBA from Pace University and Bachelor of Science from Marquette University, she realized she had found her passion in business. Although obtaining an MD/PhD was her initial plan, her realization for needing more business acumen in the workforce led her to the business field and successes she has achieved.
