Henry Firsching, 1924-2017; Was CAS Emeritus Professor
F. Henry Firsching, PhD, of Alton, died Wednesday, Dec. 20. An emeritus professor of chemistry in the SIUE College of Arts and Sciences, he was 94.
A native of Utica, N.Y., Firsching was a founding faculty member at SIUE’s campus, where he taught for 28 years until his retirement. During his tenure, Firsching was widely known for his research on the rare earth series of elements that resulted in the publication of 30 scientific papers.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Dec. 29 at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. Eric Voss, PhD, professor of chemistry, spoke at the service of Firsching’s contributions and achievements as a pioneering member of the SIUE Department of Chemistry.
Saksa–Mateer Funeral Home in Edwardsville managed the arrangements.
