EDWARDSVIILE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Jan. 21 Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball contest with Murray State has been selected for national broadcast by ESPNU as part of the league's television package.
The telecast will be the first nationally-televised basketball game from SIUE. Murray State is currently ranked in the Top 25 in both the ESPN/USA Today (No. 14) and Associated Press (No. 15) polls. Should the Racers remain in the Top 25, they will be the first Division I Top 25 opponent to play at SIUE.
When the Ohio Valley Conference announced its ESPN basketball schedule Oct. 5, there were three dates on the schedule designated as "wild card" dates in which the game to be aired was not selected until 21 days before the contest, making sure an attractive matchup was televised, instead of having to determine the full schedule a month before the season began.
As of Jan. 9, Murray State (16-0, 4-0 OVC) and SIUE (5-8, 3-1 OVC) are one of five teams with at least three wins in OVC play. The Racers are currently one of three undefeated teams in Division I. SIUE is off to a 3-1 start in Conference play in its first full season of OVC competition.
The game at the SIUE Vadalabene Center was originally scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. but will tipoff at 8 p.m. to accommodate ESPNU.
ESPNU is available in the St. Louis area on all four major cable and satellite providers. The specific channels are listed below:
