SIUE’s Darling Named Rotary Leader of the Month
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Woodland Hall Resident Assistant Austin Darling has been selected as the Edwardsville Rotary Student Leader of the Month for November/December.
The honors program was created in partnership with the Edwardsville Rotary Club and SIUE in spring 2016. Darling received his award at the January Rotary Meeting.
A junior from Danville, Darling is pursuing a bachelor’s in psychology from the SIUE School of Education, Health and Human Behavior. According to Darling, he is motivated by leading fellow students down their one true path where they can achieve confidence and success.
Darling was nominated for the award by Christine St. Louis, SIUE University Housing interim community director for Cougar Village. St. Louis described Darling as having exceptional character, being a strong leader and serving as a role model through various campus activities.
Some of Darling’s campus involvement includes: resident assistant for the psychology focused interest community (FIC) in Woodland, an area where students with a shared interest in a particular discipline can be grouped together, and executive director of the SIUE Red Storm Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary.
SIUE faculty, staff and students are eligible to nominate a SIUE student for the award. Candidates are selected based on a variety of criteria including campus involvement, leadership and high academic standards. The Edwardsville Rotary Club recognizes a Student Leader of the Month during September through April.
