UC Green

The University Center cares about sustainability. We want to be more 'green' in services we provide and products we sell. We want 'U' to 'C' Green products and cash back savings.

In an effort to be 'Green', the UC is intentional about the housekeeping cleaning products used in the building, vendors we work with, and what we feed students and guests (Click Here for more on how Dining Services is Evnironmentaly Responsible).

Check out some of our initiatives already in action:

Bare Cups

Make from 20% recycled plastic.

Greenware Cups

Made entirely from plants.

Terrapac Packaging

Made from sugarcane, not plastic.

One Less Cup

A reusable cup that saves waste and money.

Tire Coasters

Replacing disposable cardboard coasters, our meeting rooms now use reusable ones made from used tires.

Dining Services is in the planning phase for introducing composting into its daily operations.

Administrative Paperwork

We are attempting to go paperless in our administrative areas using the Neat Desk . Most records are scanned, saved, and then shredded.

Sustainability Advisory Group

MUC staff is represented on the SAG and engaged in discussion of sustainability efforts.

Landfill/Recycle Receptacles

  • New receptacles were purchased and have been placed inside and outside of the University Center. The receptacles provide people with a decision to make – dispose of waste and send it to a 'landfill' or recycle. The hope is that people will choose to recycle whenever possible.
  • Single Stream or All-In-One recycling. Republic Services manages waste for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. They utilize All-In-One recycling meaning all recyclables can be placed in one container. The trucks then transport the materials to a recycling center where they sort items and process them according to type.

Dream Machines

The MUC has partnered with PepsiCo to offer

Dream Machines located in Center Court.  These

recycling stations offer points to users and proceeds

go to disabled U.S. veterans.

Recycling Oil

Dining Services has teamed up with

Mahoney Environmental to reccyle

100% of their used cooking oil.
