NEW STUDENTS GRADUATE STUDENTS OFF CAMPUS CLASSES FACULTY
TBS provides SIUE undergraduate students with a unique textbook rental program. The textbook rental program is an economical alternative to purchasing most textbooks. At many universities students are required to purchase many costly textbooks every semester. However, at SIUe we take pride in the fact that we help students save money by providing most textbooks for them. No matter how many books you need for a class the rental fee stays the same. As off Spring 2011 Undergrad student textbook rental fees is $11.10 per credit hour taken for all undergrad classes on and off campus. This fee is included in your student fees so you do not need to bring money to pick up your books! Textbooks may be rented or returned throughout the semester during normal business hours.
To pick up textbooks
All students need to have a current scannable SIUe ID card and be enrolled in classes. According to the current FERPA privacy act, only the student and no one else may pick up their books.
Where is Textbook Service?
TBS is located at 200 University Park Drive, on the lower level (MAP). When returning or picking up books, students who are driving must park in Parking Lot P4, unfortunately, there is no student parking at the Textbook Service building. You will then cross the street to the sidewalk leading to the rear entrance of 200 University Park. For students not driving, there will be Cougar Shuttle service to the sidewalk leading to Textbook Service’s entrance. The shuttle will run on a regularly scheduled basis during the extended hours of issues and returns.
Once inside the building, follow the hallway signs to the correct entrance. Remember, textbook rental fees are included in undergrad student fees. So you do not need to bring money to get your books!
Dropping or withdrawing from class -
Students dropping classes or withdrawing from all classes must return their texts immediately to avoid penalties. Textbooks may be returned early if no longer needed. At the end of each semester, textbooks must be returned to Textbook Service. The entire replacement costs of the textbooks which are not returned will be charged to the student’s account.
Discount Period (last three weeks of semester)
Discount periods are intended to encourage students to establish a personal library of books for general reference or related to their major.
The Discount Period is an ideal time for students to buy the books they would like to keep. All rental textbooks are available for sale during this period at discounts of up to 40%, depending on how long the book has been in use. Books are discounted 20% during the first year of use, 30 % the second year, and 40% thereafter.
The Discount Rate does not apply to books returned late or not returned. The student will be charged a cost that is equal to the replacement cost of the textbook.
ALL DISCOUNT SALES ARE FINAL.
