Textbook Services provides SIUE undergraduate students with a textbook rental program — an economical alternative to purchasing most textbooks. At many universities, students must purchase many costly textbooks eeach semester. At SIUE, we take pride in helping students save money by renting most textbooks to them. No matter how many books you need for a class, the rental fee stays the same. As of fall 2012, the undergraduate student textbook rental fees is $11.70 per credit hour for all undergraduate classes. This fee is included in your student fees, so you do not need to bring money to get your books. Textbooks may be rented or returned throughout the semester during normal business hours.
To pick up textbooks
All students need to have a current scannable SIUE CougarCard ID card and be enrolled in classes. Privacy laws require that the student and no one else pick up his or her books.
Where is Textbook Services?
Textbook Services is at 200 University Park Drive, lower level. When returning or picking up books, students who are driving must park in parking lot P4. No student parking is available at the Textbook Services building. You will then cross the street to the sidewalk leading to the rear entrance of 200 University Park.
Once inside the building, follow the hallway signs to the correct entrance. Remember, textbook rental fees are included in undergraduate student fees, so you need not bring money to get your books!
Dropping or Withdrawing from Class
Students dropping classes or withdrawing from all classes must return their texts immediately to avoid penalties. Unneeded textbooks may be returned early. At the end of each semester, textbooks must be returned to Textbook Service. The entire replacement costs of unreturned textbooks will be charged to the student’s account.
Discount Period (last three weeks of semester)
Discount periods are intended to encourage students to establish a personal library of books. The discount period is an ideal time for students to buy the books they would like to keep. All rental textbooks are available for sale during this period at discounts up to 40%, depending on how long the book has been in use. Books are discounted 20% during the first year of use, 30 % the second year, and 40% thereafter.
The discount rate does not apply to books returned late or not returned. The student will be charged the replacement cost of the textbook. All discount sales are final.
