MUC Student Employment

The Morris University Center employs a great number of students in a wide-variety of positions.

Below outlines the student employment positions in the MUC. This is not a list of currently available positions. 

Dining

  • Dining Employs students for all of their dining locations such as Center Court, Pizza Hut, Cocina, Sweet Es, Starbucks, Kaldi’s, Bluff Hall, Cougar Village Commons, Sky Walk Cafe, Auntie Anne’s, Union Station, and Energy Zone.
  • Additional positions include kitchen cleaner, stock room, office assistance, busser, beverage attendant, and dish room.
  • Common job responsibilities include:
  • Stocking/transporting food
  • Serving customers/taking orders
  • Assisting with food/drink preparation
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment
  • Operating cash register


Catering

Catering Wait Staff/Food Service

  • Set-up and serve guests for a variety of large and small functions, including VIP events with high profile individuals on campus
  • Take down and cleanup all events
  • Must be able to work at least 4 consecutive hours and during the lunch hours (10 or 11-2) during at least 2 of the days

 

Administrative Office

Student Office Support Specialist

  • Provide general customer service and administrative support
  • Must be available to work during summer and break periods

Desk Manager

  • Provides service to all MUC patrons regarding ticket sales, lost and found, locket rentals, and general SIUE inquiries
  • Regularly operates cash register transactions, online software, and electronic/paper logs



Event Services

Building Manager 

  • Provide security, policy enforcement, emergency response and general service to MUC clients and guests
  • Ensure all building events are functioning properly – inclusive of room set up, client needs and requests, etc.
  • Must be available for early mornings, late nights, and weekends shifts required on a rotating basis 

Event Services Student Worker

  • Assist with scheduling rooms in the MUC – utilizing EMS computer software
  • Provide general customer service and administrative support

 

Technical Services

Student Technician

  • Set up, tear down, and general maintenance of Audio/Visual for the MUC 
  • Production for Ballroom events – work with a team to provide guidance and set up of light and sound for large events
  • No prior technical knowledge required; Early mornings, nights, and weekends required

Student Supervisor 

  • Set up, tear down, and general maintenance of Audio/Visual for the MUC 
  • Production for Ballroom events – work with a team to provide guidance and set up of light and sound for large events
  • Assist full time staff in directing team work (service as a Student Technician is most often a prerequisite); Early mornings, nights, and weekends required

 

Cougar Lanes

Desk Attendant 

  • Provide Service to Cougar Lanes' patrons regarding renting shoes, lanes, pool/ping pong tables, and regularly operating cash register transactions
  • Daily labor/maintenance: clean pool and ping pong tables, lane maintenance (includes: cleaning caps and gutters, oil lanes daily, etc.)
  • Prior bowling experience is preferable; nights and weekends required

 

Housekeeping

Student Housekeeper

  • Vacuum, dust, take out trash, mop, and other general cleaning of the MUC
  • Work as a team to set up and tear down rooms in the MUC for daily events
  • Early mornings, nights, and weekends are required 

Student Housekeeper Supervisor

  • Vacuum, dust, take out trash, mop, and other general cleaning of the MUC
  • Work as a team to set up and tear down rooms in the MUC for daily events
  • Assist full time staff in directing team work; Prior work as a Student Housekeeper is a prerequisite; Early mornings, nights, and weekends are required 

 

The Cougar Store

Clerk/Cashier

  • Must demonstrate strong customer services skills in working with customers, answering questions, discussing products, etc.
  • Takes inventory, runs cash register, socks shelves, cleans, work with books and general merchandise
  • Student Supervisor position also includes leading others in their tasks and managing larger projects within Bookstore

Computer Clerk/Cashier

  • Work primarily at the Cougar Tech area selling and answering questions about Apple products
  • Must be knowledgeable of Mac OS, iOS, iCloud, iLife, iWork, Microsoft software, and Photoshop
  • Involves customer service, cash handling, stocking, and cleaning

Apple Certified Mac Repair Technician

  • Work in Cougar Tech area repairing, selling, and fielding questions at the count and on the phone
  • Must complete provided Apple Certified Macintosh Technician certification to verify ability to repair both desktop and portable Mac devices.
  • Requires at least a one year work agreement from student employee
  • Must be knowledgeable of Mac OS, iOS, iCloud, iLife, iWork, Microsoft software, and Photoshop

 

Textbook Service

Student Clerk

  • Assist customers with textbook issues and returns
  • Responsible for taking Inventory and shelving books

Student Supervisor

  • Supervise student staff of Textbook Service
  • Provide conflict resolution for customer issues
  • Assist staff in special projects



Business Office



Marketing

Student Graphic Designer

  • Create and design advertising promotions for digital signage, flyers, posters, logos, etc.
  • Must be a comfortable Mac user with experience using the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign). Prefer an Art Major with an emphasis in Graphic Design
