Borrowers:

·        Laptops can only be checked out by SIUE students, faculty and staff with a valid SIUE ID.

·        A Semester Laptop Checkout Agreement Form must be completed and processed each academic semester.

·        Courtesy card holders may not check out laptops.

·        Proxy privileges may not be used to check out laptops.

Time Limits and Availability:

·         To ensure that laptop batteries are adequately charged when loaned, a laptop can be borrowed for no more than 2 hours.

·         Depending on availability and demand, a laptop can be exchanged after 2 hours for a different one with a fully charged battery.

·         Laptops will be checked out on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations for future check out will not be accepted.

·         Accumulated Library charges exceeding $49.99 will result in suspension of all Library borrowing privileges, including laptop borrowing.

·         Laptops may be used only on floors 1, 2, and 3 of Lovejoy Library.

·         Laptops may not be taken out of the Library. Any removal will be referred to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the SIUE Police.

·        Laptops are the responsibility of the borrower during the checkout period. They should never be left unattended.

Fines and Liability:

·         Laptops must be returned to the Circulation/Reserve Desk.

·         The overdue fine for a laptop returned late is $20 per hour or fraction thereof.

·         Laptops not returned 30 minutes prior to the Library’s closing will be considered stolen and be reported to the SIUE Police.

·         An inventory of parts and a system check will be performed when the laptop is returned.

·         Tampering with security seals, or otherwise damaging or destroying a laptop, may result in a fine.

·         Problems that occur while the laptop is checked out should be immediately reported at the

Circulation/Reserve Desk.

·         The laptop replacement cost will be $2,500 or actual cost, whichever is greater.

Saving Files and Privacy:

·         The laptop will automatically erase unauthorized programs each time it is restarted.

·         Save documents on a personal zip disk (250MB or lower) via the removable disk drive, as each laptop.

will be reformatted when it is returned. Zip disks are not available from Lovejoy Library.

·         Work done on a wireless laptop, including the use of email, is not secure. Other devices may pick up the signal.
