How Do I Cite a Newspaper Article Using MLA?

Basic Format

  • Author’s name.  "Title of article."  Title of newspaper  Date of publication, Edition information: Page information (add a "+" if article continues on subsequent pages).

An Article in a Newspaper (with author)

  • Zuckerman, Gregory.  "Sears Suitor Faces a Tough Bet."  Wall Street Journal  18 Nov. 2004, Eastern ed.: C1+.

An Article in a Newspaper (anonymous)

  • "Esterline to Buy Maker of Electrical Gear."  New York Times  10 July 2004, late ed.: C4.

ELECTRONIC

Basic Format

  • Author’s name.  "Title of article."  Title of newspaper  Date of publication.  Date of access <URL>. 

An Article in a Newspaper (with author)

An Article in a Newspaper (anonymous)
