Guided Tour (50 minutes)

Covers library hours, policies, circulation procedures, reserves, special collections, the information desk, reference collections, location of materials, microforms, and government documents.

Introduction to the Online Catalog (50 minutes)

Covers Library of Congress subject headings, call numbers (how books are arranged), interpretation of the library's online catalog, and explanation of location symbols.
Includes hands-on research time.

Introduction to Databases (50 minutes)

Covers print indexes, electronic indexes, locating periodicals using the online catalog, and location of periodicals.
Includes hands-on research time.

Basic Reference Sources (50 minutes)

Covers basic print and electronic reference sources including general and specialized dictionaries, encyclopedias (including Britannica Online), almanacs, and handbooks.

Internet Resources and Evaluation (50 minutes)

Covers Lovejoy Library's home page, selected search engines, and evaluation of information on the Internet (scope, authority, reliability, currency, etc.).
Includes hands-on research time.

Introduction to RefWorks(50 minutes)

RefWorks is a web-based bibliography and database manager. This workshop covers the basic features including how to set up a personal account, export/import references from Academic Search Premier, create folders to organize research and format a bibliography.
Includes hands-on research time.

Hands-On Research Time (50 minutes)

Terminals will be reserved in the library for up to 50 minutes.

Course-Related Instruction (50 - 1:15 minutes)

Incorporates instruction (utilizing one of the tours listed above) tailored to a specific assignment or subject
It is recommended that notification of subject areas be given two weeks in advance to allow for adequate preparation. Includes hands-on research time.
