<table width="582"> <tr> <td id="content"> <h3><strong>Instruction Program Goals and Objectives</strong></h3> <h3></h3> <p>Activities in the teaching and understanding of information literacy are provided. Library users will learn to find, locate, retrieve, evaluate, use, and value information resources through learner-centered instructional programs, initiatives, and materials. The Program provides independent, individual, and group instruction through point-of-use, course-integrated, web-based, and workshop sessions.</p> <p class="bodytext">Library Instruction Learning Objectives include:</p> <ul> <li>Become familiar with library facilities, organization, resources, and services.</li> <li>Learn how to find books, periodical articles, and other resources.</li> <li>Understand the basics of doing library research.</li> <li>Learn how to find and evaluate information on the Internet.</li> <li>Understand that further help is available through contact at the Information Desk and/or subject librarians.</li> </ul> <p>Specific Course Objectives include helping users to accomplish the following:</p> <ul> <li>Analyze a topic and identify key concepts.</li> <li>Formulate a successful search strategy.</li> <li>Understand and use controlled vocabulary and thesauri.</li> <li>Select and use appropriate print and electronic research tools for their particular assignment/discipline.</li> <li>Critically evaluate sources regarding their relevancy, authority, accuracy, objectivity, content, and currency.</li> <li>Integrate these information literacy concepts and skills into their academic experience and apply them to a field of study.</li> </ul> </td> </tr></table><p></p>
