<p>Lovejoy Library's Instruction Program offers the following instructional sessions:</p>
<p><strong>Guided Tour</strong> (50 minutes)</p>
<p>Covers library hours, policies, circulation procedures, reserves, special collections, the information desk, reference collections, location of materials, microforms, and government documents.</p>
<p><strong>Introduction to the Online Catalog</strong> (50 minutes)</p>
<p>Covers Library of Congress subject headings, call numbers (how books are arranged), interpretation of the library's online catalog, and explanation of location symbols.<strong> Includes hands-on research time.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Introduction to Databases</strong> (50 minutes)</p>
<p>Covers print indexes, electronic indexes, locating periodicals using the online catalog, and location of periodicals.<strong> Includes hands-on research time.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Basic Reference Sources</strong> (50 minutes)</p>
<p>Covers basic print and electronic reference sources including general and specialized dictionaries, encyclopedias (including Britannica Online), almanacs, and handbooks.</p>
<p><strong>Internet Resources and Evaluation </strong>(50 minutes)</p>
<p>Covers Lovejoy Library's home page, selected search engines, and evaluation of information on the Internet (scope, authority, reliability, currency, etc.). <strong>Includes hands-on research time.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Introduction to RefWorks </strong>(50 minutes)</p>
<p>RefWorks is a web-based bibliography and database manager. This workshop covers the basic features including how to set up a personal account, export/import references from Academic Search Premier, create folders to organize research and format a bibliography. <strong>Includes hands-on research time.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Hands-On Research Time </strong>(50 minutes)</p>
<p>Terminals will be reserved in the library for up to 50 minutes. Graduate assistants can assist with proper notification if needed.</p>
<p><strong>Course-Related Instruction</strong> (50 - 1:15 minutes)</p>
<p>Incorporates instruction (utilizing one of the tours listed above) tailored to a specific assignment or subject. It is recommended that notification of subject areas be given two weeks in advance to allow for adequate preparation. <strong>Includes hands-on research time.</strong></p>
