What information should I have before locating a journal at Lovejoy Library?
- a complete citation (article title, author, journal title, volume and issue information, date of publication, and relevant page numbers)

What if I only have an abbreviated title of the journal?
- use Periodical Title Abbreviations: By Abbreviations (Ref Z 6945.A2W34) located in the Ready Reference section behind the Information Desk
- use the online resource All That JAS (Journal Abbreviation Sources) (http://www.public.iastate.edu/~CYBERSTACKS/JAS.htm)
How do I determine if the journal is available in full text or full image?
- access the Library's homepage (http://www.siue.edu/lovejoylibrary)
- Select Journals, Magazines, and More under Find
- Select Full Text eJournals, Magazines, etc. by Title (SFX)
- on the SFX search screen, enter the title of the journal in the space provided
- if the journal is available in an electronic format, a link will be provided to the appropriate database; see the image below for an example
- determine dates of full text coverage for your journal to ensure the availability of the desired volume and issue
If the journal is not available in an electronic format, does Lovejoy Library have the journal in print, microfilm, or microfiche?
- use the SIUe Lovejoy Library Catalog under Find -- Books, Media, and More on the library's homepage
- select Journal/Magazine Title from the list of Search By options
- enter complete title of journal (excluding a, an, and the at the beginning)
- if the Library owns the journal, determine the holdings and format
- if the Library does not own the journal, and if time permits, request the specific article through Interlibrary Loan using ILLiad (ILL), the Library's system (some material may take up to two weeks to be delivered)
- if the Library does not own the journal, check with the staff at the Information Desk to determine availability at another institution in the St. Louis metropolitan area
After I’ve checked the online catalog, how do I locate the actual journal?
Current paper subscription
- located on the 2nd floor (individual "unbound issues" are in red plastic boxes)
- arranged alphabetically by title of journal
Bound journal
- located on the 2nd floor
- arranged alphabetically by title of journal
- older back issues of journals are bound together as a book (usually containing all issues for one volume or year)
- to retrieve journals housed in Storage, complete an online request form or check with the staff at the Information Desk
Microfilm or Microfiche
- located on the 2nd floor in the Microforms area
- assistance is available for retrieving, viewing, and printing/scanning articles
How much does it cost to make copies from electronic, print, or microform journals?
- the cost of printing or copying is $.10 per page using a SIUE ID card ($.50 per page for color copies)
- value can be added to a Cougar ID card using the station on the 1st floor of Lovejoy Library or in the Service Center in Rendleman Hall
- coins can also be used in the printers and photocopiers
