Users can type any Canadian geographical name (town, feature) and retrieve its latitude, its longitude, the province in which it is located, and a map showing its location. National Topographic System (NTS) map numbers and sheet names are also supplied.
The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) contains information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United States. GNIS is an online database that allows searches for any United States feature; there is also a searchable database for Antarctica with the same features.GEOnet Names Server
"The GEOnet Names Server (GNS) provides access to the National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) database of foreign geographic feature names. Approximately 20,000 of the database's 3.5 million features are updated monthly with names information approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.
