We are currently dealing with construction and site issues for the 2009 Antiques Show & Sale. The Vadalabene Center floor space is smaller than we had anticipated and the Gymnasium room will not be available to us this year due to athletic practice schedules. As a result of these limitations, the Advisory Board has voted to suspend the 2009 Antiques Show & Sale with the anticipation of hosting a larger and more exciting show in 2010.
The Student Fitness Center is Expanding by adding two full-sized basketball courts. Construction however, will not be completed until August of 2009. We are working with the SFC to host the Antiques Show & Sale over Spring Break week in March of 2010. Upon completion, the SFC will contain five full sized basketball courts in one contiguous space. Provided we can reach an agreement with the SFC, the 2010 show will be bigger than ever, with concessions and restrooms at the front entrance. It’s an ideal space for the event and we are excited about the opportunity to improve the show.
We appreciate your support and apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. We did not come to this decision lightly and feel that this is the best way to advance the Antiques Show for the future without alienating dealers or disappointing customers by hosting a sub-standard event this year.
To raise funds for Lovejoy Library and support our current needs, we will conduct a Dinner and Auction on May 30, 2009 in the Meridian Ballroom of the MUC at SIUE. We will keep you apprised of this event and provide you with updates on the 2010 Antiques Show & Sale as they become available. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Sincerely,
Kyle Moore,
Director of Development
