Who can submit an Interlibrary Loan request via I-Share?

Current SIUE faculty, students, and staff.

When should a request be submitted in I-Share?

Items should be requested when the material is not available at SIUE.

How do I request an item in I-Share?

If the item is not owned or available at SIUE you will need to search the I-Share catalog for the item.

Before searching the I-Share catalog, it is useful to log into your account first so that you are ready to request the item. If you don't already have an I-Share account you will need to create one. To create a new account, go to the Log In screen for the SIUE UFind Catalog.

Once you find the item, and have the full record in view, make sure there is a copy with the "available" status.

Click on the tab "Request First Available" or the link "Request this item" that appears below the Status information.

Click on the "Choose pick-up location" button.

Select a library from "Choose pick-up library". If you will be picking up the item at SIUE you do not have to select a different pick-up location. If you wish to pick up the item at another library, then choose that library from the drop-down list.

Select a location from "Choose pick-up location" - there are two options SIUE Access Services or Alton Circulation. Click on the "Request" button.

The message "Request submitted. Check your account to track your requests." will appear if your request has been submitted successfully.

What types of library materials can I borrow through I-Share?

Most library materials are available for loan from other libraries. Some materials such as reference materials, rare and special collections, phono records, videos, CDs, DVDs and entire volumes or issues of periodicals may not be requestable. Although the status may show ´┐ŻAvailable´┐Ż it may not be eligible to send out for interlibrary loan purposes.Journal articles and non-print materials should be requested via ILLiad

How do I order one or more volumes from a multiple volume set?

It is recommended to request one or more volumes from a set via ILLiad, not I-Share. Please indicate the volumes needed in the request's note field.

How long will it take to receive the material?

I-Share requests usually arrive in 3-5 days. They are transported via ILDS, a state-wide delivery system, that operates Monday - Friday.

How will I know when the item I requested is available?

A notice will be sent to your SIUE email address letting you know that your requested item is available for pickup. You may also check the status of your request by viewing your I-Share library account.

How and when must I retrieve my requested item?

Materials will be placed on hold for you to pick up at the Library's circulation desk. Items borrowed via I-Share will be held for 14 days.

How can I check on the status of my request in I-Share?

You can check the status of your request by viewing your I-Share library account information.

How long can I keep material borrowed through I-Share?

Loan periods are 28 days for items borrowed through I-Share.

How do I renew the library materials I have borrowed through I-Share?

Items requested through I-Share (those with blue book bands) may be renewed using the renewal option in your I-Share library account. Renewal loan periods are 28 days from the current due date. Items can be renewed up to 3 times. Renewals are allowed if the item is overdue. Items listed as "lost" or "recalled" cannot be renewed.
