David Hanych, PhD

David Hanych has been a Program Director in the Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings (DRL) at the National Science Foundation for six years and has worked in seven funding programs (Advanced Technological Education (ATE), Academies for Young Scientists (AYS), Discovery Research K-12 (DRK-12), Instructional Materials Development (IMD), Informal Science Education (ISE), Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST), and Teacher Professional Continuum (TPC). Before coming to NSF, he worked as a curriculum developer and instructional software designer for the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS) in Colorado. At BSCS, David co-authored seven print- and CD-ROM-based instructional programs for high school and college biology. Before going to BSCS, he taught undergraduate biology at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota and coordinated the University of Minnesota's Biology Internship Program. David has a Ph.D. in ecology, evolution and behavior from the University of Minnesota. As a post-doc in biotechnology, he coordinated an NSF-funded workshop titled Genetically Engineered Microorganisms in the Environment: A Workshop to Identify Basic Research Needs.
