SIUE Volunteer Programs

Volunteering allows students to apply academic knowledge, gain skills and experience, and contribute to the community. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the St. Louis and Metro-East metropolitan area and within the University community.

Action! Days are opportunities for students to work as a group to participate in one-day community service projects. These projects allow students to explore and become involved in a community area, meet residents, learn about community issues, and meet other volunteers. Action! Days are scheduled on Saturdays and during the week lasting four to six hours.

Click a link on the left hand of the page and explore the variety of volunteer projects or Spring Break trip.

Get Involved!!!

To complete the Student Leadership Development Program sixty hours of volunteer service and attendance at one structured reflection session are required to complete the Volunteer Service Component. Thirty of the volunteer hours must be completed in the community. In order to receive credit toward the leadership transcript, students must verify service hours and complete Verification of Service Forms, detailing duties performed and skills acquired for each volunteer opportunity. Non-credit Volunteer Internships are available through various academic departments. Through these departments, non-credit volunteer internships can be listed on the Student Leadership Development Program co-curricular  transcript. Volunteer placement is made by the Volunteer Services staff located in the Kimmel Leadership Center, 1st floor Morris University Center.

Service Learning is a component of some academic classes. Kimmel Leadership Center staff works with Service Learning faculty by placing students in volunteer opportunities related to the course content. Students in Service Learning courses come to the Kimmel Leadership Center to arrange an appointment to discuss the Service Learning placement with the Volunteer Services staff.
