Program Overview

The Student Leadership Development Program offers a wide variety of opportunities that complement the classroom experience.   These opportunities can give you a competitive edge as you enter the workforce, apply for scholarships, or Graduate School.  All enrolled SIUE students may participate in the program regardless of academic major or class standing.  There are no admission requirements or fees.  The program is designed to be completed at your own pace and according to your career interest.  Students are encouraged to begin early in their academic career to receive the maximum benefits of the program.   The program consists of two components: Leadership Development Modules and University and Community Service (volunteerism).  Additional professional development programs include the IMAGE (Interviewing, Manners, Attire, Grooming, and Etiquette) Program and Stephen R. Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People® Workshop are available for a small fee.

How to Join SLDP

The Student Leadership Development Program is open to all students regardless of major or class standing.  Students may receive an application and schedule an appointment for an orientation at the Kimmel Leadership Center, located on the first floor of the Morris University Center.  General orientations are held on the first Tuesday, at 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. the first through third weeks of schools at the computer lab in Peck Hall 1410.  Students may enter the program at anytime.

Requirements for Completion

Modules   Volunteer Service
Attend 20 modules 60 hours of volunteer service
Modules #1 - #10 required 30 hours must be completed in the community
Ten elective modules #11 - #24 Verification of Service Forms completed
Attend a structured volunteer service reflection session

Dates to Apply for Completion
Exit interviews must be scheduled by November 1 for Fall semester and March 1 for Spring semester.  Verification of completed volunteer services and module attendance will occur during the exit interview. Development of the student's SLDP transcript will occur after the exit interview.
