This year, Student Government is focusing its efforts on three crucial conversations.
The first of those is diversity and inclusion. We are working to help members of the SIUE community embrace differences instead of allowing them to tear us apart. A major part of that is the addition of the Student Diversity Council to Student Government's standing committees and the addition of the Student Diversity Officer to the Student Government Executive Board.
Student Government is placing focus on mental health and suicide awareness and prevention. We have partnered with the iCare campaign. iCare is a suicide prevention grant that was received by the School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, and Counseling Services. This effort and partnership will continue throughout the next three years.
The final conversation is regarding the state budget crisis. We are working on determining new and creative ways to ensure that our voices are heard by our legislators in hopes that a state budget that fosters higher education is passed. We want to ensure that we are having constructive two-way conversations with our state leaders.
