Establishing Copy and Print Restrictions In Blackboard Tests

To prevent Blackboard users from copying and printing while inside of a test, including on post-test feedback screens, faculty may want to establish copy/print restrictions in Blackboard Tests. Follow the instructions below to set up such restrictions:

On September 17, Apple plans to release the iOS 8 update for general availability. When these types of releases have occurred in the past, SIUE has seen very large increases in network bandwidth as users try to update their various devices (e.g. iPhone or iPad). Due to the way newer versions of popular browsers are now handling the process of viewing pdf's (which causes an issue for dynamic pdf's), we have altered the way all pdf's housed on the siue.edu domain are handled so they are more accessible to everyone.

Turnitin service will be unavailable during a scheduled maintenance period on Saturday, July 26th, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. CST. Significant upgrades will be made to improve capacity and scalability as Turnitin service utilization grows. SIUE Streaming Server for Storing and Sharing Media

SIUE’s streaming server makes sharing audio and video more seamless by letting viewers access media via a web link regardless of the user’s access to specific AV software.

Upon request, ITS can convert most video (DVD,VHS, Hi8, MiniDV, Blu Ray) and audio formats to files that can be uploaded to the SIUE streaming server. Content must be SIUE-related and must meet Copyright and Fair Use guidelines.

Cryptolocker Malware: Your Personal Files on Ransom

May 28, 2014

Cryptolocker is a particularly nasty type of malware, known as Ransomware, that is spread via the download of malicious email attachments from fraudulent email, or phishing. Once downloaded, Cryptolocker uses a key to encrypt your computer files - such as documents, photos, videos, etc. -  and holds them hostage until you pay a large sum of money to decrypt the files. Turnitin Rubric Enhancements: New Sharing and Uploading Capabilities

Turnitin has expanded its grading rubric features. Now professors can browse and import standard rubrics from Turnitin's Teaching Tools, or upload rubrics created in Microsoft Excel. Luminis CMS No Longer Available Starting April 1

Luminis, the University's previous web content management system (CMS), will be permanently shut down on April 1, 2014. As of that date, it will no longer be accessible.

Luminis site content was migrated into the University's new CMS, Cascade Server, in Aug. 2013. If users saved anything in Luminis after Aug. and would like to keep it, they will need to login to the previous system and download their files before April 1, 2014.

Microsoft Office Now Available To Students

Microsoft has added a benefit to the existing SIUE campus agreement that allows students to download and install Microsoft Office at no additional charge. This new offering is available immediately.

Currently enrolled students can log in with their SIUE e-ID and password, then download and install Microsoft Office on up to five computers. New Distance Learning Classroom in Founders Hall

Although faculty are able to play back Collaborate recordings in Blackboard, a known issue prevents those recordings from being converted to .mp3 (audio) or .mp4 (video) formats. Mass Publish Scheduled for Cascade Server

Cascade Server, the University's content management system, has been experiencing display issues with pages involving https:// SIUE url’s. A solution for the display issues has been identified and will need to be applied system wide to all pages and sites by re-publishing the entire SIUE website.
