My e-ID password is not working.

There are a number of possible reasons that your e-ID password may not be working. On this page we will go over some of the more common issues and their solutions. You can also contact the ITS helpdesk at (618)650-5500 or help@siue.edu and we can help you determine the issue.

Your password may be expired. (Have you changed your password in the last 60 days?)

Has it been more than 60 days since you last changed your password? If so your e-ID is probably expired. If you know your last working password you can go to www.siue.edu/eid and choose "I know what my password is and I want to change it." Even if your password is expired you will be able to use this option to update it. If you cannot recall your last working password you will still be able to change your password if you remember the secret phrase you set up when you created your account (go to www.siue.edu/eid and choose "I have an e-ID but forgot my password"). If you do not remember your secret phrase you will need to contact the ITS help desk for assistance (Lovejoy Library room 0005, (618)650-5500).

You m ay not have signed up for your e-ID yet. (Did you go to www.siue.edu/eid, click on "I want to get an e-ID," and follow the instructions?)

Have you signed up for an e-ID at www.siue.edu/eid? During your time at SIUE there are a few different usernames and passwords that you will use to access SIUE systems. For this reason users sometimes believe that their e-ID is not working when they just need to go to the e-ID maintenance page and sign up for it (www.siue.edu/eid and choose "I want to get an e-ID).

Your account could be "key coded." (Did you receive a postcard in the mail within 60 days of signing up for your e-ID?)

After signing up for your e-ID did you receive a postcard from the University and preserve your account using a code on the card? If your e-ID password stopped working 60 days after you signed up for it and you do not recall entering the code from the postcard then this is probably the issue. If you still have the postcard and a valid password you can preserve your account by going to the e-ID maintenance page and choosing the option "I received the postcard with my key code and want to preserve my e-ID." If you have not preserved your account with your key code and your e-ID password is expired you will need to contact the ITS help desk at (618)650-5500 or help@siue.edu for assistance.

Your e-ID could be locked. (Has it been more than 180 days since you attended classes?)

Has it been more than 180 days since you last attended classes? Your SIUE e-ID is only valid for 180 days after you stop taking classes at the University. If your e-ID was just recently locked we may still be able to unlock it for 7 days so you can download anything you need from your account. After the 7 day period you will not have access to your account unless you enroll in classes (your data may not be available if there is too large of a gap between the times you take classes at the University).

Your password could be wrong.

As the number of passwords we are forced to remember increases so does the possibility that we will occasionally recall our password incorrectly. If you cannot log in you can attempt to change your password at www.siue.edu/eid by choosing the option "I know what my password is and I want to change it." If you cannot change your password then it is likely that your password is incorrect. You will still be able to change your password if you remember your secret phrase (go to www.siue.edu/eid and choose "I have an e-ID but forgot my password"). If you do not remember your secret phrase you will need to contact the ITS help desk for assistance (Lovejoy Library room 0005, (618)650-5500).

Your e-ID username could be wrong (e-ID is not the same as your University ID / 800 number).

Your e-ID is a combination of your first and last name (example: John Doe's e-ID would be "Jdoe"). Your exact e-ID can vary slightly from what you would anticipate if someone with a similar name is already enrolled in the university. If the system you are trying to log in to asks for your e-ID make sure you are not using your 9 digit University ID (sometimes referred to as your "800 number).
