Blackboard Collaborate is a web conferencing tool that allows users to share information and ideas, such as PowerPoint slides, desktop content, and web pages, in a live, synchronous environment. Collaborate offers full audio and video capabilities, public and private chat, as well the ability to poll or quiz participants in real time. In addition to live online meetings, Blackboard Collaborate can also be used to record lectures or activities for participants to view at a later time. Audio and video from these recorded Blackboard Collaborate sessions can be exported to a local computer or used externally with a variety of mobile devices and media players.

Collaborate can be used outside of Blackboard with the Session Administration System (SAS). This system enables SIUE faculty and staff to offer sessions through Collaborate, such as online office hours or virtual presentations, without using an academic course shell in Blackboard.
