International Housing

Temporary Housing
Official check-in for University Housing does not begin until the weekend before classes begin. Therefore, international students may need alternative housing during Orientation week. If available, temporary housing will be provided by the University at approximately $12 per day. In addition, International Student Services may be able to arrange free housing for one to three days if two weeks advance notice is given. Temporary housing is provided by current international students and local American families. When all temporary housing is filled, students may need to stay in a local hotel.

Securing Permanent Housing
To secure on-campus housing, students should begin the housing application process as soon as they are accepted to the University. Because SIUE is three miles from the city of Edwardsville, off-campus housing is not convenient without an automobile. University housing is usually fully filled two months prior to each academic term, therefore it is extremely important to immediately apply for housing. International students may ask to be placed on a housing waiting list (see Arrival Confirmation & Assistance) but there is no guarantee of housing without an official housing confirmation after deposit payment.
