Speech Center

Mission Statement:

In partnership with the Speech Communication Department and Instructional Services, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) Speech Center is dedicated to providing the University community quality assistance in improving public speaking abilities for both academic and professional development.  The Speech Center provides an active-learning environment where students and staff are engaged in the process of speech research, writing, and delivery.

The speech center is open to ALL undergraduate and graduate students of ALL majors. The center is a great opportunity for students to improve public speaking and speech writing skills.

We offer several resources:

• One-on-one guided sessions from trained tutors
• Assistance with research of speech topics
• Advisement with the development of speech outlines
• Help with the organization of speech content
• Assistance with speech delivery skills
• Will video record students and offer feedback
• Help with visual aids, including Power Point
• Overall general assistance with speech assignments

We are dedicated to helping students plan and develop presentations. Experienced speech communication students serve as tutors and resourceful individuals who are enthusiastic and want to help fellow students succeed.

We also offer in-class workshops and presentations on the following topics:

• Effective individual presentations
• Group presentations
• Effective powerpoint
• Speech Delivery skills
