Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I attend Summer Bridge?

The benefits of Summer Bridge are enormous in light of its impact on your future success as a college student.  The Bridge will give you a head start in making the social and academic transition to college.  You will become familiar with the campus, and meet other students, faculty, and staff.  You will also experience the demands of college studies and college life, get an assessment of your academic skills, enhance your study skills, and learn to set priorities.  Bridge students earn 3 units of academic credit toward graduation for successfully completing the program.

Must I attend the entire Summer Bridge program?

Students selected for Bridge are required to make a commitment for the entire length of the program: June 13 through July 26, 2013.

May I attend Summer Bridge at SIUE if I plan to enroll at another university?

No.  Summer Bridge is designed for students who will enroll at SIUE in the fall term.

May I work and attend Summer Bridge?

This is an intensive program.  Students follow a busy schedule from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm, Monday through Thursday, and instructors will require assignments to be completed outside of class.  As you can see, the amount of time available for employment is very limited.

May I be excused from Summer Bridge activities to participate in sports or other activities?

No.  You will not be excused from regular scheduled Bridge activities to engage in a sports-related activity, i.e., practice, game, vacation, etc.  You must make a commitment for the full program from June 13 through July 26.

May I live on campus while attending Summer Bridge?

Yes.  Living on campus during the Summer Bridge program is an option, for an additional fee.  Please contact Kara Wright, Summer Bridge housing representative, kwright@siue.edu for more information.
