| Julie began working at SIUE in 1999, first serving as the Director of the Intensive English Program from 1999 – 2003 and subsequently moving into her current position as Study Abroad Coordinator. Julie’s passion for travel and international education began in her high school years as an AFS Exchange Student to Spain. After completing a BA in Spanish from SIU Carbondale and earning an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language from SIUE, Julie taught English in a private language academy in Spain for 1 year. She has traveled extensively in Spain and much of Western Europe. Primary Responsibilities: Increase campus wide awareness of undergraduate education abroad opportunities, to promote intercultural learning and to advocate and for diversity in participants and programs; counsel students interested in semester long study abroad in identifying the most suitable study abroad programs to meet individual student goals; provide advice on scholarship opportunities and financial aid for study abroad; guide students throughout entire study abroad application process; work with various academic departments and faculty to facilitate approval of study abroad coursework for SIUE credit; provide students with appropriate pre-departure information and maintain contact with students while abroad for guidance and emergencies. |
