| How does SIUE support your professional growth or activity as a Teacher-Scholar? "My research activity allows me to stay current in my field. I have always been impressed by the level of research support that SIUE provides. And it is getting better. If scholarship enhances teaching, it is our students who will benefit and be more competitive in their chosen professions." Please share a unique aspect of your professional life that enhances your service to the academic or greater community. "I get to work with a lot of very smart, very energetic and, it seems, increasingly younger people. They keep me engaged and interested not only in developments in my profession, but in the community as well. "
How has one mentor or event shaped your career decision to become a university professor? "My dissertation advisor instilled in me the belief that the goal of research is not getting that journal publication but answering that question you thought was interesting. Research should be done as much for one’s own personal fulfillment as for external rewards. The university environment provides the ability to ask and investigate these questions." |
