Champion for Diversity Award 

 

The SIUE Champion for Diversity Award is presented to a faculty and staff member who has demonstrated an exemplary level of dedication to SIUE’s mission of fostering equal opportunity, as well as exhibited outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

To continue the work of highlighting, and thus changing, the history of prejudice, discrimination, and exclusion in our society, recipient(s) of the Champion for Diversity Award will be recognized annually during the Chancellor’s State of the University Address.

The award will consist of a plaque and $500 donated to a University diversity project of the recipient’s choice or to his/her departmental unit. 

The Champion for Diversity Award is granted based on six criteria:

1) fostering institutional commitment to an inclusive campus environment;

2) providing a learning and pedagogy-focused educational experience (faculty only);

3) involvement in inter-group and intra-group relations;

4) demonstrated leadership through positive interaction with persons of diverse identities and backgrounds;

5) fostering research and creative activity promoting inclusively;

6) long-term impact on the campus community.

Nominees must meet at least two of the above criteria to be considered for this award.  All faculty and staff members are eligible to be nominated.
