HIRING UNIT: UNIVERSITY SERVICES TO EAST ST. LOUIS EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH-EB (East St. Louis/Brooklyn)
TITLE/RANK: Counselor/Project Specialist/Educational Specialist
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Provides academic, educational, social and personal counseling and guidance, and academic advisement to program participants. To conduct workshops with program participants and assist with preparation for completing entry into post-secondary educational programs while maintaining progress reports and contacts with home school counselors/teachers. To maintain counseling and follow-up records of participants and assist with the planning and implementing of program activities.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Bargaining, Regular beginning October 12, 2009 through August 31, 2010 with the possibility of renewal. 100% appointment.
SOURCE OF FUNDS: Federal
SALARY RANGE: commensurate with qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel or program administration preferred for Counselor’s position; Bachelor’s degree in counseling, student personnel, public administration or related field for Project Specialist/Educational Specialist positions; prefer minimum of two years working in TRIO or related educational programs for youth with low-income/disadvantaged background; knowledge and sensitivity of problems with minority and disadvantaged students desired.
