HIRING UNIT:  NATIONAL CORN-TO-ETHANOL RESEARCH CENTER

TITLE/RANK:   Fellow (Postdoctoral Researcher)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  The successful applicant will be responsible for implementing the IDEA assay in the NCERC analytical laboratory and using it to analyze numerous samples of distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS).  The successful applicant will also be responsible for development and validation of analytical methods for tryptophan in animal feed co-products from the production of fuel ethanol, including microwave digestion for hydrolysis of DDGS.  The successful candidate will use the newly developed methods to measure the concentration of tryptophan in numerous samples of DDGS.  In addition, the successful applicant will analyze data generated by NCERC and it collaborators, write reports to funding agencies, and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.  The successful applicant may also provide analytical laboratory support for pilot-plant trials.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:  Fiscal year, Term, beginning May 1, 2009 through April 30, 2010. Possibility of renewal.  100% appointment.

SOURCE OF FUNDS:    Federal

SALARY RANGE:    Commensurate with qualifications and  experience

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Applicant should have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Agricultural Science or a related field .
