BUSINESS SPECIALIST - SCHOOL OF BUSINESS- SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The function of the Business Specialist position is to provide quality service and development assistance to the clients of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) from the SIUE campus and East St. Louis locations. Clients of the SBDC are prospective and current for-profit small business owners in a nine county region of the metro-east Illinois area. The SBDC assists clients with the following: business plan development, market research/planning, financing options, start-up process, business assessment, loan packaging awareness, financial analysis/projections, opportunities to work with teams of business students, access to library resources, and other small business needs. Duties of the Specialist consist of the following: scheduling and meeting with clients for one-on-one counseling sessions, conducting workshops, coordinating on-site and off-site seminars and programs, preparing and gathering resources for all of the above, knowing the services of other organizations that clients may utilize, etc. Clients are referred to the SBDC from sources including the following; Chambers of Commerce, local governments, banks, professional service providers, word of mouth, public events, business directories, etc. Some evening/weekend hours required occasionally.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Non-bargaining, term, June 1 - December 31 with possibility of renewal, 100%.
SOURCE OF FUNDS: Federal grant and state grant.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A Bachelor's Degree in business, economics, or marketing is required. Two years of small business counseling/consulting or business experience is preferred. Ability to travel to and conduct business in a 9 county area is required.
