HIRING UNIT:  OFFICE OF INSTITUTIONAL COMPLIANCE

TITLE/RANK:  Assistant Director

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  The Assistant Director of Institutional Compliance coordinates and implements affirmative action, equal opportunity and compliance programs for employees, veterans and individuals with disabilities; investigates complaints of discrimination, including sexual harassment and makes recommendations for resolving such complaints; provides compliance guidance to university units; responsible for the annual updating and implementation of the various plans and reports, including the University’s Affirmative Action Plan, the Minority, Women and Disable Students Faculty and Staff Report, the Minority Employment Plans (African-American, Asian-American, and Hispanic-American) for the Illinois Board of Higher Education, and the VETS 100 report; assist as liaison with Human Resources, Office of the General Counsel and the SIU System Compliance Office and external compliance agencies; determines statistical basis for the establishment of affirmative action goals; develops and conducts training programs for compliance purposes; oversees the monitoring of University employment activities and provides guidance to campus and community groups on compliance matters; participates in professional development activities to keep abreast of current compliance issues, relevant state and federal laws.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:  Professional Staff, non-bargaining; continuing, 12-months, 100%

SOURCE OF FUNDS:  State

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:   Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in human resources, personnel management, social or behavioral sciences or a related field; five to seven years of responsible administrative or professional experience in affirmative action, equal opportunity, compliance or human resources; experience in  contract compliance; knowledge of state and federal employment laws and compliance agencies (e.g., EEOC, OFCCP and OCR); experience with statistical analysis and research; experience in developing and conducting training programs  and workshops; excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel required; knowledge of SPSS data analysis a plus.
