HIRING UNIT: SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
TITLE/RANK: Director of Small Business Development Center
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The successful candidate will administer three programs within the Illinois Small Business Development Center Grant (the International Trade Center and two Small Business Development Centers). The International Trade Center (ITC) and one Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are located on the SIUE campus and the second SBDC is located at the East St. Louis Higher Education Center. The position requires a wide variety of management skills due to the diversity of clientele served by the Centers. This individual will plan and coordinate programs/activities consistent with goals and objectives of the Illinois SBDC and SIUE. Other responsibilities include: maintain local board of advisors; develop internal and external resources, as well as seek funding resources for both SBDC's; supervise personnel (consultants, clerical, ITC Director, and graduate assistants) and manage operating budget; establish partnerships with area business resources; maintain data and provide timely reports to the granting agency and School of Business; promote the SBDC, SIUE, and the needs of the small business community; establish a marketing plan for the Center; develop and maintain relationships with the local business community. The Director will be responsible for counseling clients at both Centers along with community outreach and advocacy for all three programs. The Director reports to the Dean of the School of Business.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Professional Staff, Non-bargaining, term, beginning January 7, 2013 through June 30, 2013 with the possibility of renewal contingent on job performance as well as continued funding, 100%.
SOURCE OF FUNDS: State and Grant
SALARY RANGE: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A B.A. or B.S. degree in business, economics, or relevant field is required. Master's degree in business or related field is preferred. Five years of small business management or consulting is required. The incumbent must have budget and program management experience, including an ability to effectively manage staff reporting relationships. This position requires a strong marketing and sales orientation and will involve public contact and public speaking engagements.
