HIRING UNIT:  UNIVERSITY SERVICES TO EAST ST. LOUIS
                          UPWARD BOUND BEM PROGRAM

TITLE/RANK:  Counselor/Tutor-English

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  This position will teach enrichment courses in English, Monday through Thursday and two (2) Saturdays per month to program participants; assist in the development and implementation of program activities as it relates to the specific subject area; administer pre-assessments and develop Individual Education Plans (IEP’s); provide academic and enrichment instruction; conduct progress checks/discussions with faculty; review participants’ grades, participation level and attendance; participate in Parent/Teacher conferences; administer and score post assessments; provide transportation for program participants as needed.  The Counselor/Tutor may be assigned other related tasks in support of the Center’s mission and goals.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:  Professional Staff, durational, beginning immediately through May 31, 2013, part-time (19%).

SOURCE OF FUNDS:  Federal

SALARY RANGE:  19% - 35% of $2,585.30 per month, depending on appointment percentage

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:   Bachelor’s degree required in related subject matter, Master’s preferred; Teacher Certification preferred; minimum of two (2) years teaching experience; experience working in related educational and/or other programs for disadvantaged youth; experience working for educational programs that address needs of low-income, first generation disadvantaged youth.
