TITLE/RANK: EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Working under the general guidance of the Associate Director and at times the Manager, Employee Relations, this position will be charged with providing guidance and assistance to the community as it relates to the administration and implementation of 15+ collective bargaining agreements. Additionally, this position will spearhead efforts to maximize employee performance by utilizing the Employee Excellence Program. The incumbent will analyze best practices in this area and make recommendations for continued improvement. If an employee fails to meet expectations, the incumbent will work with the manager to improve the employee’s performance by evaluating all aspects of the communication model, job expectations and relevancy, deadlines and measurables, as well as evaluation material for continuous feedback. The incumbent will also promote the use of conflict resolution techniques in order to resolve employee issues and concerns at the lowest level for the purpose of minimizing grievance submissions. The incumbent will also ensure that all managers adhere to the University’s Progressive Disciplinary Process. The research, design, and the computation of salary and benefit data used for collective bargaining will be assigned by the Associate Director. The incumbent will be expected to provide training to the campus community in the above mentioned areas.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Administrative staff, non-bargaining, continuing, 12 months, 100%
SOURCE OF FUNDS: State
SALARY RANGE: $42,600 to $51,600 annually
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A Bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations or related field, plus three to five years in Employee/Labor Relations, including supervision of employees. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for this position. Must possess excellent knowledge of software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. After the first year of employment the incumbent will be expected to have a complete understanding of Federal and State regulations and laws, State University Civil Service System, campus policies, rules and regulations.
