HIRING UNIT: OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES
TITLE/RANK: Specialist, Employee and Labor Relations
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Working under the direction of the Associate Director for Labor Relations, the Specialist will provide guidance and assistance with administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The Specialist will promote the use of conflict resolution techniques and the communication model in order to resolve disputes, disagreements, and employee’s issues at the lowest level. This process should minimize disruptions to the operations; eliminate grievances and increase employee productivity and morale. The Specialist will develop and provide a customized training program for the campus community. In addition, she/he will be expected to train managers on the Employee Excellence Program (setting employee performance standards, measuring employee productivity, and improving employee deficiencies).
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Professional staff, non-bargaining, continuing, 12 months, 100%
SOURCE OF FUNDS: State
SALARY RANGE: $53,262 to $60,000 annually
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A baccalaureate degree with a concentration in business administration, public administration or a related field is required. Five to seven years of progressive, responsible experience in human resources with a specialization in employee and labor relations is required. The qualified candidate must have previous supervisory and training experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Operating systems (specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.
