TITLE/RANK:  Academic Advisor

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Academic Advisor general duties include:  meets with students and prospective students to provide accurate, current curricular information on undergraduate and select graduate programs, assists in short-term and long-term academic program planning, refer students to other support services/units on campus and provides assistance in regard to program changes (class drops and adds and major changes) and career plans; assists in recruitment and retention efforts for undergraduate and graduate programs; performs administrative tasks which support the advising duties and the progression of the student toward graduation.  Additional duties in support of the mission of the School of Business may be assigned from time to time.   The above statements of this job description describe general duties performed by employees assigned to this position.  They do not claim to describe all of the functions of this position.  Employees may be assigned other duties and essential functions may change or be modified from time to time.  Evening hours are required for this position.  Additional weekend work may be required.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Professional Staff, bargaining, 12-months, beginning July 1 through June 30, 100%.  

SOURCE OF FUNDS:  State

SALARY RANGE:  $35,946 annually

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  A Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, business administration, or closely related field is required. Knowledge of college student development, academic advising theory and the college environment is required.  Knowledge of student support services available to college students is required.  Ability to demonstrate good communication skills and personal rapport with diverse populations is required.  Ability to use computerized student information systems and personal computing software is required.  Prefer applicants who have one to four years of experience as an academic advisor. Prefer experience advising in collegiate level business education programs and assisting students with adjusting to college-level expectations.  Candidates who have graduate assistant experience in an area of student affairs will be considered.
