HIRING UNIT: NATIONAL CORN-TO-ETHANOL RESEARCH CENTER
TITLE/RANK: Assistant Director, Pilot Plant Technical Projects
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Assistant Director of Pilot Plant Operations will be responsible for directing and coordinating pilot-plant studies at the National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC). The incumbent will participate in and/or supervise the engineering design of all process modifications needed to meet client or grant funded objectives for work to be conducted in the NCERC's Pilot Plant; will work with Research Engineers to specify equipment and obtain quotes from vendors; will coordinate pilot plant trials with the Assistant Directors of Research, Research Engineers, Operating Coordinators and Scientific Analysts; will be responsible for facility safety; will ensure that all milestones are met in preparation of pilot-plant studies, appropriate data is collected and data quality objectives are achieved during and after research studies; will ensure that operational, process control, and data acquisition challenges are resolved before the trial.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Professional Staff, non-bargaining; continuing beginning January 2013, 100%

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must have working knowledge of process engineering; the ability to write protocols and project reports; the ability to communicate clearly with clients, plant and laboratory staff; the ability to efficiently meet client objectives and analyze quantitative and qualitative data; familiarity with equipment and instrumentation for process control and mass-flow measurement; familiarity with OSHA safety compliance. A B.S. in engineering, chemistry or a related discipline with at least 5 years of experience in an industrial environment is required. Advanced degree with management and research experience in industrial processes is preferred.
